message to heaven

Christmas time: My Lola Ning, Tita Vik, Tito Jimmy and Del, my mom, Tita Lyn and my lola

dear mama,

how funny that every time i think of you, i remember playing cards, bottles of soft drinks, sachets of shampoo, threads and needles, jars of candies, hopia, cigarettes, watching pba and a whole lot of sitting in your couch while working on our assignments. funny because i'm sure these are not the usual things people remember about their grandmothers. i know you are in heaven watching over us, enjoying your birthday with lolo. you're always in our hearts.

love,
mimi

Leave the Lights On

as bulbs represent new and bright ideas (eureka! moment), i used it to symbolize that same moment too, whenever someone sees a familiar object, we have that eureka moment also that lets us rekindle memories.

Sino ba talaga bahala?

whenever i go to the church of the the black nazarene in quiapo, manila i get weirdest feelings. people who go there are mostly devotees, people whose prayers have been answered by god, or people who are asking for the impossible. i go there because i feel different with the energy of the church. and whenever i go inside the church, i get the feeling of prayers pouring out of the windows and the doors, and you feel the sincerity of people's prayers, of their wishes that sometimes i'd feel awkward praying for my dreams. with that, i came up with this installation piece that i entitled, "sino ba talaga bahala?" my capture that feeling every time i go to quiapo.
